Everything is sure green in and all around Cherokee from all of the
wonderful rain!

Angelo State University conferred degrees upon 465 students during 2007
spring commencement exercises May 12 in San Angelo, Texas.  Cody Mckneely
received a Bachelor of Arts degree.  Way to go Cody,  we love you and are so
proud of you!

Cherokee is a good place to be on Memorial Day weekend.  It's quiet enough
to have time to reflect on those who have, are and will go to war to protect
our priceless freedoms and of course to remember the friends and family of
those who have paid the ultimate price.  Having a son who went for two
overseas tours with the army reserves during and after his college years, I
remember well the fear mixed with pride at the airport before each
deployment, but trying to be at least as courageous as my son and holding
firm to the pricipals that he was fighting for on foreign soil. After an
eight year stint and the two deployments in the reserves, he graduated from
college and decided not to make the military a career and is now settled
into a nice job in law enforcement but still, he has friends who were in his
company which are still serving and still in harms way.   All who serve as
well as their families are in our thoughts and prayers every day and thank
you.

Until next week, that's the news from Cherokee, Texas!
