Alternative to manual file card deck method for dissertation literature review

Hello All:

Does anyone know of a good alternative to the old two deck 4x6 file
card method for organizing and summarizing articles pulled for a
dissertation literature review? With PC's doing virtually everything
now-a-days, there has to be a more time efficient alternative.

I am also looking for something better than what i have which is
nothing but a pile of papers laying in the floor by my desk.

I look forward to hearing about any alternative method.
