June 28, 2009
On Saturday and Sunday July 11-12, 2009, The Fort MacArthur Museum in San
Pedro, California is proud to present another of its special annual themed
fundraisers "Old Fort MacArthur Days".
Visitors to the museum will have a chance to interact with hundreds of
living history performers representing time periods from the days of the
Roman Legions up through the Vietnam War. Our guests can also visit the camp
sites to see exhibits on daily life, field craft, music, and other
entertainments.
Our special guest this year is Medal of Honor recipient Mr. Tibor "Ted"
Rubin. Corporal Rubin's many acts of courage during the Korean War saved the
lives of hundreds of his fellow soldiers. In the heat of battle, he inspired
his comrades with his fearlessness. And amid the inhumanity of a Chinese
prisoner of war camp, he gave them hope. The Medal of Honor is the highest
award for bravery given to a United States Soldier. It is given for acts of
valor that no superior could rightly order a soldier to perform. And that is
what we mean by "above and beyond the call of duty." More information about
Tibor Rubin can be found on the event information page:

The hours of this years show are 10:00am-4:00pm both days. Tickets cost
$10.00 per person for adults and $5.00 for children under 12. Proceeds
benefit the restoration, preservation, and education programs of the Fort
MacArthur Museum. Tickets can be purchased at the front gate to the museum
beginning at 10:00am on both days and as always parking is free. Food and
drinks will be available at an additional charge.
To reach the Fort MacArthur Museum and Angels Gate Park, travel south on the
110 Harbor Freeway to San Pedro. Continue south on Gaffey Street to 36th
Street, and then turn right. Follow the signs along the access road to the
Fort MacArthur Museum's gate. For more information about this and all of our
events, please visit the museum website: www.ftmac.org

About the Fort MacArthur Museum:
The Fort MacArthur Museum is dedicated to the preservation and
interpretation of the history of Fort MacArthur, a U.S. Army post which
guarded the Los Angeles harbor from 1914 to 1974. The Museum was established
in 1985, and it is housed in the corridors and galleries of historic Battery
Osgood-Farley. The Fort MacArthur Reservations hold an important collection
of historical structures which were part of the U.S. Army's role in the
defense of the American continental coastline from invasion. These
structures clearly trace the development of American coastal defenses, from
the all big gun era of the turn of the century to the missile and satellite
era of today. The rooms, galleries and corridors of the Museum contain a
variety of exhibits and displays which include: the history of Los Angeles
harbor defenses, home-front activities in the greater Los Angeles area
during the World Wars, and Civil Defense.
