I am interested in getting some information from this group on websites that they find to be designed very well from both a functionality and a look and feel perspective. The websites do not have to be related to the hackerspace or anything that we do at the hackerspace. I am really just trying to get a better feel of whether there are some common functional or visual elements that are in favor across the range of individual tastes represented by this group.

If you could reply with some links to websites that stand out to you from a functional and visual design standpoint, I will appreciate it. If there are specific elements that you find attractive please call attention to them. I am looking for relatively specific observations rather than generalities. i.e.  Rather than "Website is easy to navigate" use "The menu location along with the ability to drill down into sub-categories makes it easy to get to the information of interest".

I will appreciate any responses ranging from a few links with no comments all the way to a link with a discussion of all of the elements that stand out to you.

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff,

Very cool you are doing this!

Would like easy image and video upload.  As easy as flickr but without cutting and pasting links to flickr.

Will get back with examples and comments on other things.

I agree with Lee on a centralized point of media (photos, videos,
etc..) Up to now, drupal design has forced us to really splinter up
photo organization. I am for in favor for organizing by events or
themes, but a way to easily access the entire collection would be
beneficial. Also a batch upload option would be nice. Simple upload
option encourages all members to upload to one repository. Maybe a
slideshow option rotating through pictures to showcase different
disciplines.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I do want to clarify the what type of input I am looking for however. I am specifically interested in getting links to websites that you feel are holistically well designed, practically regardless of the content on the site. This is in contrast to specific feature requests.  I am definitely NOT currently looking for feature requests. There are currently a number of factors that contribute to my need for this very specific input.

If there are websites that stand out to you from a visual or ease of use standpoint,  please send me a link.

Although I do not want this thread to be a discussion of features on the website, I will let everyone know that I am very aware of all of the feedback that has been given over time regarding desired improvements to the website. Some of the feedback I have specific plans to address, some I do not.

I apologize if this reply is coming off as being critical of those of you that have taken the time to respond to my request. That is not my intention at all...I value your time and opinions. I simply wanted to clarify what I am looking for.  Thank you all again for responding to my request.

No offense taken here, you were looking for conceptual look and feel. Got it
