I saw this recently on Slashdot. Many of the posters there noted that
the patent that Myhrvold has is on putting such DRM on your 3D
printer. It is not forcing anyone to use DRM on the 3D printer they
build and sell. it will mean that if you build and sell a 3D printer
with DRM on it you have to pay for the privilege of making your
printer more restrictive. If you do not put DRM on your printer then
you do not have to pay the patent holder. I wish I had thought of it.
I would definitely make companies pay if they want to make the printer
they sell more restrictive.
