I am looking at making a functional screw/bolt thread identifier  to aid in sorting fasteners at the space (I would like to build one for home as well) similar to  http://www.reidsupply.com/sku/TV-28/  I would like to go down to very small sizes in both inch and metric and would like to do so for less $$$

My plan is to use actual screws/bolts and nuts of known size/thread pitch to create the same kind of functional checking device.  Most of the larger sizes are pretty readily available and we probably have most at the space (#6 and up). I am wondering however if anyone has a selection of smaller fasteners <#6 that they would like to donate to the project. I also would like metric screws and nuts of known size and pitch down to a very small size. If you happen to have either the smaller sizes or known metric sizes, please try and get them to me or drop off at the space. Ideally, I would like to get 2-3 of each size screw/bolt  and nut labeled with the size/pitch.

If others are interested in building one for themselves , let me know and we can join forces/expand the quantities so that everyone can get a finished product.  I am considering designing a 3d printed holder for the screw and nut of each size such that they could be strung together similarly to the one linked above.

Thanks for any help in making this happen and/or feedback.

I will ask my dad if he has any extras at his hardware store.

Jeff,

Cool idea.

Feel free to take any nuts from the organizer I have.  I believe there are 4-40 TPI, 5-40 TPI and some small metric, though I forget exactly what.

Not sure if google groups deals with attachments or not so alternatively follow the links below.

A couple of images of a concept for holding the Nut and Screw/Bolt for the Thread Identifier project.  The next iteration will have a loop to connect the holder to string or wire.  For the real small sizes I may have to do something a little different.
