Lundy Island, off the north Devon coast, is to be closed tomorrow
following the outbreak of an infection which has taken hold of the small
community.
The popular tourist spot, which sits in the Bristol Channel, will be
closed to visitors after a virus swept across the island causing
residents to suffer from vomiting and diarrhoea.
The island, three and a half miles long and half a mile wide, is home to
26 members of staff who have been affected by the bug along with a
number of visitors.
Ferry and helicopter trips to the island will not run over the next 12
days while work is completed to sanitise buildings, including boats and
Lundy's one pub, to eradicate the virus.
Members of staff are expected to remain on the island to help with the
clean-up.
