BERLIN, June 21 (AFP) Jun 21, 2007
Violent storms in Germany claimed the lives of two people and snarled
traffic Thursday at continental Europe's busiest airport in Frankfurt,
authorities said.
Strong winds and heavy rain brought down a circus tent Thursday during
preparations for a rock festival in the southwestern town of Neuhausen
ob Eck.
One of the beams fell on a car carrying rescue workers, killing one
instantly. Two others were seriously injured.
In the western town of Euskirchen on Wednesday, a 33-year-old strawberry
picker was killed when he was struck by lightning.
By midday (1000 GMT) in Frankfurt, 146 take-offs and landings were
cancelled and dozens of flights were delayed due to the inclement
weather, a spokeswoman said.
Another 30 planes were redirected to different airports in the region.
