The body of a 54-year-old British man who went missing in a storm in
Crete on Wednesday was found on the island's coast, bringing to three
the number of Britons who died during Greece's recent bad weather, the
semi-offical Athens News Agency reported on Friday.
The body was washed up on the beach at Almyrida, near to Hania in
northwestern Crete, ANA reported. A car belonging to the Briton, who had
been living on the island for several years, was found nearby, having
been washed away by the current on Wednesday.
Police said the man drowned while trying to reach dry land.
Two 47-year-old British tourists were also drowned on Wednesday off the
island of Rhodes, further east, after swimming in spite of warnings of a
storm due to hit the south of the Aegean Sea.
