Earthquake hits between Indonesia, southern Philippines*

A strong earthquake struck beneath the Molucca Sea or Celebes Sea, the
US-based National Earthquake Information Center announced Thursday.
The temblor, with a magnitude of 6.7, hit at 05:40 GMT Thursday some 223
kilometers (138 miles) north of Ternate, Moluccas, Indonesia, the
Denver, Colorado based center announced.
The location of the quake was also placed some 328 kilometers (204
miles) ENE of Manado, Sulawesi, Indonesia or 449 kilometers (279 miles)
southeast of General Santos, Mindanao, Philippines, the NEIC said in a
preliminary statement.
