BRUSSELS (Reuters) - A Belgian mother stabbed her five children to death
on Wednesday before trying to commit suicide, police said.
Emergency services found the bodies of children aged 3 to 14 and their
injured mother at their home in the town of Nivelles, about 30 km (20
miles) south of Belgium's capital Brussels.
The four girls and one boy had all been stabbed with a knife on
Wednesday afternoon, police said.
The woman had called the emergency services after her failed suicide
attempt. She was taken to hospital, where local media said she was in a
critical condition.
Police could not say what had made her kill her children.
Belgian media said the woman was receiving treatment for depression and
had written a letter intended for a friend outlining her plans.
