Heatwave prompts Israel army to cancel exercises*

JERUSALEM, June 23 (AFP) Jun 23, 2007

The Israeli army said Saturday it cancelled military exercises across
the country over the weekend in the face of a heatwave that saw
temperatures sore above 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius).

"Routine military exercises all over the country have been cancelled
because of the heat. We are considering when we will be able to resume
them," an army spokeswoman said.

Forecasters predicted temperatures would reach 94 degrees in Tel Aviv on
Sunday and remain above 90 degrees until the middle of the week.

Even in Jerusalem on the heights above the coastal plain, temperatures
were predicted to remain above 90 degrees until Tuesday.
