*Raging Wildfire sweeps through UK National Park*

Hadrian's Wall: Part of one of the country's most picturesque national
parks was razed by a huge fire close to Hadrian's Wall.

Fire crews fought for ten hours on Monday to control the outbreak close
to Haydon Bridge in the southeast corner of Northumberland National Park.

Though the fire posed no threat to the public and was confined to an
area of woodland and heath, wind and large clouds of smoke from felled
timber made conditions particularly difficult for firefighters.

“It was quite a challenge because there was a great deal of smoke and we
had to tackle the fire from its flanks, using breathing apparatus,” said
Andy Railton, station manager of Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service.

Up to eight fire engines, assisted by a Northumbria Police helicopter
and firefighters from Tyne and Wear Fire Service, attended the scene.

The fire, reported at 2pm and which created eerie pink skies.

The fire service believes that the blaze began in an area of felled
woodland as a result of the recent dry conditions.
