A CALIFORNIA jury today found a 24-year-old woman guilty of
second-degree murder for killing her three children in 2005 by throwing
them into the cold water of San Francisco Bay.
The San Francisco jury found LaShuan Harris guilty of three counts of
second-degree murder, each count carrying a sentence of 15 years to life
in prison.
Harris had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity after prosecutors
charged her for the drowning deaths of her three small boys, aged 6
years, 2 years and 16 months.
Prosecutors were satisfied with the verdicts.
"Basically it's a life sentence," said Debbie Mesloh, a spokeswoman for
San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris.
The jury had previously declined to convict Harris of first-degree
murder but found her guilty of three counts of child endangerment
resulting in death. Each count carries a sentence of 25 years to life in
prison.
