Intense Storm brings flooding back to UK*

Shops and homes in Boscastle were under two feet of water last night,
three years after the Cornish village was devastated by floods.

Cars were abandoned and residents were forced to protect properties with
sandbags after torrential rain hit the area.

The Environment Agency said "road flooding" has been caused by about 1.2
ins of rain falling in an hour.

There was no river flooding as was the case three years ago, a spokesman
added.

"It is a muddy mess - we didn't expect to see it again," said one resident.

Cornwall Fire Brigade said improvements made after 440 million gallons
of flood water poured through the village in August 2004 had helped
prevent worse flooding this time.
