FIREFIGHTERS supported by water-bombing aircraft are working to protect
homes on Perth's southern outskirts as a fire burns out of control in
nearby bushland.
The fire has burned about 412 hectares of the Beeliar Regional Park near
Kwinana, in Perth's south, since it started about 10am (AEDT).
For a time it threatened houses at Orelia, but a dry easterly wind was
now pushing the flames towards houses in Medina.
Power has been cut to some houses, Fire and Emergency Services Authority
spokesman Alan Gale said.
A main road was acting as a firebreak between the park and the houses,
and 95 firefighters were working to stop the blaze spreading across the
road.
Three water-bombing helicopters and two fixed-wing aircraft had joined
the fight, Mr Gale said.
