Earthquake strikes off northwest US*

A 5.8-MAGNITUDE earthquake struck off the northwestern coast of the
United States today but there were no immediate reports of injuries or
damage, officials said.
A spokesman for the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the
quake struck in the Pacific Ocean, 260 kilometres west of Bandon in the
state of Oregon, at about 11.30am local time (7.30am Tuesday AEDT).
The USGS said the depth of the quake was believed to be about 10km but
tsunami warnings were not expected.
