SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) -- A moderate earthquake has shaken northern Chile,
but there were no immediate reports of any damages or injuries.
The U.S. Geological Survey reports that the quake had a preliminary
magnitude of 5.4. It was centered in a stretch of unpopulated desert and
mountains 152 miles (245 kilometers) southeast of the northern city of
Antofagasta and 580 miles (931 kilometers) northeast of the capital,
Santiago.
The quake happened at 5:32 a.m. local time Thursday.
