A highway in California has been shut down because of road rage.
Motorists inconvenienced by a road-widening project north east of Los
Angeles subjected construction workers to so much abuse that officials
decided to close the road.
Employees complained of drivers yelling, issuing death threats, throwing
missiles including a burrito and even firing a pellet gun at them.
The £22 million improvement work to the congested 138 at Wrightwood,
between San Bernadino and Palmdale, is designed to ease the drive of the
thousands of commuters who use the road every day.
The closure is forcing motorists to take a half-hour detour. Work is not
expected to be finished until September.
