*Six people shot dead in Wisconsin*
US authorities are investigating a shooting in a small Midwestern town
that left six people dead and a child in apparently critical condition,
officials said Sunday.
Police responding to reports of gunshots late Saturday found the six
victims inside a home in Delavan, in southern Wisconsin, almost 50 miles
(80 kilometers) southwest of Milwaukee, the Delavan police department said.
Officials said a wounded child was also found outside the house in a
nearby vehicle.
The two-year-old girl had a gunshot wound to the chest and was initially
taken to a hospital in Rockford, Illinois, where she was listed in
critical condition, according to media reports.
She was later moved to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison,
but officials there refused to give an update on her condition.
Police appeared to be treating the case as a possible murder-suicide.
Officials said they were withholding the identities of the dead until
the next of kin could be notified.
"We have reason to believe the neighborhood is safe," Fox News quoted
police chief Timothy O'Neill as saying. "There is not a suspect at large."
