* Major Power Outages  Black out New York*

(CBS) NEW YORK CBS 2 HD has learned power began returning to parts of
Manhattan and the Bronx after major power outages affected nearly
140,000 homes and businesses while stopping trains and trapping people
in elevators. Sources tell CBS 2 that lightning may have been the cause
of the problem.

The affected areas in Manhattan stretched from 75th Street to 110th
Street, and from 5th Avenue to the East River. Traffic lights were
reported out in the area as well.

Power in the Upper East Side was reportedly beginning to be restored
around 4:30.

Outages in the Bronx were reported as well. Sources say the problem in
the Bronx began due to a sub-station fire underground.

About 78,000 were reported without power in Manhattan and another 58,000
without power in the Bronx.

The outages come on a day where temperatures soared into the mid-90s
with dreadful humidity making it feel even hotter.

The Transportation Authority reports that they also experienced a power
dip. Trains stopped and went into emergency brake procedures.

Power is not back, but there are still delays. Train lines affected were
the 4,5, 6, and D lines where there was no service at all. Other lines
were reporting delays, though service was running.

There are Metro North delays being reported as well.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art was evacuated around 4 p.m. with its
visitors forced to wait outside in the surrounding parks. Randall's
Island has also been affected.

There are reports of people trapped in elevators in Harlem.
