AN earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale jolted southern Peru
overnight, sending many nervous locals scurrying into the streets,
authorities said.
The quake was felt at 0226 AEST, mainly in the departments of Arequipa,
Ica and Ayacucho, the Geophysical Institute of Peru said, noting that
there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
There have been 74 moderate-strength temblors in Peru so far this year.
