Any recommendations re suggested encryption sw for communication between
the police and the public, via email, are appreciated.

I presume the police use the Windows OS.

I'm primarily using an android tablet.

Thanks.

Lt. Greenwood:

Yes, I am concerned about privacy.

If the BPD currently has no recommended methods for secure, private
communication via email,
Will you please ask the relevant BPD persons and departments
(Ex: A) your supervisor,
B) the BPD IT department)
For their secure email policy recommendations or requirements.?

I will appreciate it if you could get me a response as soon as possible
today,
Because securing my property from the criminals (assault, battery,
robbery)
Who currently possess it is an urgent matter for me.

Thank you in advance for your prompt action on this.

PS: If the BPD doesn't currently have a suggested method,
The GNU Privacy Guard (GPG)
(Link below)
is the "gold standard",
IIRC.

Mr. Regan,

To the best of my knowledge, BPD officers have used email routinely for
years without the need for any need for any particular
privacy/encryption tools per se. Agencies routinely transmit
confidential information via email and secure networks.

In general emails (and to an extent police reports also) may be subject
to inquiries made under the California Public Records Act, and may be
disclosed as a result of such requests. If you are concerned about
privacy, I can only say that I will not disclose such communication
until and unless requested to so in a manner in accordance with law and
departmental policy.

I think the best way to reasonably proceed is for you to email me your
description of events, as we discussed, for discussion and incorporation
into a police report.

Please note I have ended up working late this evening, and will be at
work later than normal tomorrow morning.

Email remains the best way to stay in touch.

Best regards,

Lt. Andrew Greenwood

Thank you for listening to my statements today, about my beliefs about
my property having been robbed, in a criminal action.

Will you please find out, hopefully today, and email me a reply:

What privacy/encryption tools does BPD suggest for communication,
between the public and BPD?

Such communication are not automatically publicly available documents,
correct?

Thank you.

As you know, any email client which uses email encryption with certificates.

The problem today is that both parties must have a client which does this.

I believe the latest security standards talk about 2048bit certificates,
which should meet most, if not all security standards, including FIPS

example Deutsche Telekom is now selling such an email service, whereby
only registered users can exchange encrypted email with other registered
users. I always wonder why this hasn't become more common (the world is
getting lazier by the day - convenience is king)

In fact, I've often thought that we might use certificates to end spam
and other annoyances

The recommends below are "pretty good".

Clients ? thunderbird, K-9 both work well in my experience, and run on
most common OS
