I’m not sure if anyone’s forwarded this to the barcamp list.

Dealmaker media usually does high-end conferences with VCs, well-funded startups, and the like.  Last year, in SF, they put on a conference Startonomics where they made it much more affordable for early-stage startups to come.  Since it was a success, they’re doing an  LA version.  The idea is that they focus on detailed metrics for early-stage startups in product design, traffic building, fund-raising, scaling, saving money, etc.

(I have no involvement other than volunteering to speak, but think it’s worth going to for a lot of folks on the list.)

Yeah, it's dismaying. But instead of slagging the organizers, how
about you mail them and let them know how disappointed you are? Might
be a little more constructive. Just sayin'.

Not sure if you realize this, but Dealmaker is pretty much headed up and run entirely by women. While I agree that there should be women speakers, I wouldn't go so far as to say the "organizers SUCK".

I'd like to echo Mike's comment. Debbie and the folks at Dealmaker are
great. I attended their previous startup event in San Francisco which
included some great female speakers. I'd recommend going to one of
their events, no matter what the gender makeup of the panels, before
you write all of them off.

Completely agree. One of the reasons that I haven't signed up for this
event is that I've talked to many of the folks on the agenda at
previous LA events. New blood would be great.

Sorry I wrote my earlier note from my phone while at a SMC meeting and probably should have elaborated a bit.

DealMakers, is, in my opinion, the best organization in LA for start ups and VCs and those interested in either to meet. The reason for this is their gold standard in speakers/partners - this is why their events sell to capacity.  Something else to consider with these events?  These events continue to keep the LA start up community in front of media outlets - any publicity the LA start up community gets is a benefit to all of us in it.

Ok all that said, it would be interesting to have a seminar geared towards the second level start ups - you got funding, now what.  That could bring in another round of excellent speakers, bring another round of media/VC interest to the community, etc.
