Gomes in Gloucester, MA 
  Hi all, Need some help ... My dad's great aunt left Pico with her sister (Maria Machado b. 1866 and Francisca b. 1868) and went to Gloucester, MA. Family lore says Maria married a widower with the surname of Gomes who had sons and they only had a daughter named Maria. Mr. Gomes was some sort of fisherman or whaler.   Hi Victorino is the middle name for my grandfather and uncles. My greatgrand mother came from Sao Jorge, she was never married and the rumor goes she had affairs wiith the man who lived on the hill across the road. translation help 
  Greetings Group, I noticed a baptismal record that stands out because of its differences.......could someone clarify it for me? On the CCA site for Sao Jorge for the Topo baptisms.......1828.....page 235....the second one.....what does it say?   I am Charlotte White and live in Hawaii. I have much information on my mother's family roots. Her grandparents were Jose Tavares Teves born on June 1, 1854 in Rabo de Peixe and her maternal grandmother was Rosa Augusta Ventura also from Rabo de Peixe. Maria da Conceic??? 
  While wandering through St. Anne's Catholic Church in Columbia California, Tuolumne County I came across this old grave. Perhaps it will help someone in their family search. Most of the graves were moved because the miners wanted to dig for gold in the graveyard however that did not happen. Some of the words on the stone are___... more »
