I have Jacinto Rodrigues Casquilho who married Antónia de Jesus Miranda,
daughter of António Francisco de Miranda and Jacinta Cândida Pereira da Silva,
paternal granddaughter of Luís Francisco Miranda and Maria Clementina Benedita
Ferreira and maternal granddaughter of João da Silva and Ana Martins, in Fajã de
Cima in 1888. I have no further information on the groom.

I went to a fantastic restaurant the other day in Cambridge, MA, Kendall
Square to be exact called The Blue Room. A friend of mine asked if I would
like to go because she got a recommendation from an owner of company next to
her company whose husband is the head chef there. I found out that his name
is Jorge Lopes. I didn’t get to talk to him since this place was quite busy.
They had a great menu. He did have a Chourico, Squid soup and other special
dishes as appetizers, but not the typical Portuguese menu. If you want that,
you can go to the Sunset Room in East Cambridge. There is a breakfast place
in Davis Square, Somerville that is owned by a Portuguese family named
Borges. I never found out if they were related to me. Great food there, too.

So if any one is interested in knowing if Jorge Lopes is related you can
always go to the restaurant if you are in town or coming in town.

Also, J Lopes I have Manuel Rodrigues from Sao Roque, Ariffes, Sao Miguel.

Hi everyone.
I have a question for the list. I have found some sequeira relations intermixed with my own Silveira, and I am beginning to think that the two names are one and the same, that somehow the two names are variations of the the same name. I was wondering what other members of the list think about this.
I also read somewhere that Sequeira is some sort of PLACE name, and was wondering if maybe individuals back then just sort of adopted the Place name as their own surnames.
All input is welcome.
Thank you

Sorry Lisa

Sequeira and Silveira are not the same names. They exist by themselves. From
what I have seen, there are the names in several families at least in S.
Miguel. As you know I have access to the all Genealogias de S. Miguel e
Santa Maria so if you send me a gedcom or another type of chart may be I can
sort it out for you.

Hi Eliseu:  Sorry to interrupt, but you said that you have access to all Genealogias de Sao Miguel e Snta Maria.  I sure could use some help.  Here is my brick wall:

born abt 23 June 1879, on Sao Miguel island.  (This is my paternal grandfather.)
died 10 Nov 1960,Oakland, Alameda, CA
PARENTS

Manuel death info says that he was born 15 Aug 1857, Sao Miguel island.

Hello Shirley:

You probably don't remember me; we met at my cousin Theresa Entin's house
many years ago. My guess is that your John was a child of unknown parentage
fostered by Manuel Rebelo and his wife Maria, but who knows? It is only a guess. I
have seen the records of many émigrés to the US from the Azores who list their
foster parents as parents and the biological children of those foster parents
as the brothers/sisters with whom they are coming to live with in America.

The complete works of Rodrigo Rodrigues are a real treasure trove. In some
cases lines come down to the 20th century but most lines only go to the 19th.
Still, in most cases, if some solid preliminary research is done (say 5
generations), there is a strong likelihood that at least one (and often more) line
will be found in Rodrigo Rodrigues.

Good luck with your search, Shirley!

John

Hi John:  Thanks for the reply.  My grandfather had a brother, Manuel, that was 3 years younger than my grandfather.  Manuel's daughter, Mary, told me that Manuel's favorite grandchild was Mary's sister "Ollie".  Mary asked him why Ollie was his favorite.  He told her that Ollie looked like his wife.  Also that his wife had big hands.
Manuel told Mary that his wife is buried on the "islands".  Mary thought that he meant the Azores islands.  But, I think that it could have been the Hawaiian islands.  My grandfather told me that he used to ride horses on the beach in Hawaii.  Of course, I didn't ask which island.  Duh.

Shirley
PS It turns out that Teresa Entine is about my 17th cousin.  I got the info from Diana Custodio (Silva?).  Can't remember her married name.
