Dear Azores Group Members

I am a Brazilian-American artist (born Florianopolis-SC, Brazil; living in Los Angeles), currently working on a video and photo project about the Azorian diaspora, including interviews and portraits of families that migrated and/or have a connection between Azores-CA-Brazil. My goal is to combine travelogue with immigration stories, dealing with issues of identity, travel, assimilation and dislocation - something that is very close to my own life as an immigrant.

I was wondering if you'd be interested in participating in my project or if you have any suggestions of other families - who have a similar history, that might be interested in it too.

This project has the support of the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs and is scheduled to be exhibited in June 2009 at the Los Angeles Municipal Gallery. An illustrated catalogue will accompany the exhibition.

I am an artist who migrated from Sao Paulo to Los Angeles to further my education in art. In 96 I received a MFA from UCLA's Art Department.  Since then I have exhibited my work in numerous places, including the Orange County Museum of Art, the Museum of Image and Sound in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the Santa Monica Museum of Art, and the Laguna Art Museum.

If you need further information please let me know. Thanks so much for your time and interest, I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Sincerely yours,

Bia Gayotto

Bia,

I'm interested in your project. I have sent you an invite to see my family tree project at Ancestry.com. you can contact me directly at noblanktree at gmail.com.

I have been working on Azores genealogy for over 10 years and have many family artifacts including dozens of postcards   to my great grandfather from 1900 to 1925. I have a photo of him from the 1880s on a copper plate as well as a letter from his sister in Cedros , Flores sent in 1925 describing the difficult time they were having after storms destroyed their crops.
