My Uncle, Joe Perry, raised chickens and I was surrounded by them as a kid. He was very bonded to his roosters and when he was ill and didn&#39;t have long to live, his nephew brought his favorite rooster in to the house to visit him. It was a very heart warming moment.

  I thought the elephant was a good luck symbol from Africa.  I remember seeing elephants in the homes of many portuguese people who had lived in (or served military time) in Angola and moved to the United States and Portugal after the revolt in Angola.   &lt;br&gt;   &lt;br&gt; I specifically remember it being a group of elephants in a row with the larger one in the middle and people would display them in a bay window or on a table.  Usually made of ivory.

The elephant had an African on its back trying &lt;br&gt; to spear the attacking elephant. When I was a boy, every Azorean home I visited &lt;br&gt; had one of those!

  Nice to know it is a rooster. I&#39;m not too good with bird identification! I have several of them as they are painted so beautifully. I was in Sintra and a man and woman selling carved Folk objects on the street were from the Azores. Many of their objects were this rooster. &lt;br&gt;   &lt;br&gt; Thanks again for the info.
