Spring has sprung, flowers are blooming and greyhounds are being
adopted! Hot Dog!!!
FOSTER FEATURE - "RAWHIDE"
Rawhide is one of those rare greyhounds that don't fit the image of
what a greyhound should look like. He is 92 pounds of muscle and
grins. His head is quite large, and his ears are quite small which
gives him a somewhat "goofy" look. He's is a three year old red
brindle, but his face is almost completely gray giving him an old wise
look. But don't let looks fool you! He's a smart dog. He is looking
for someone to spend time with him playing ball and going for long
walks. He will come up to you when you are sitting and put his big
ole head right on your chest and just look at your with huge brown
eyes that plead for a head rubbing.
Rawhide does have eye allergies and takes two Benadryl a day to help
with his itching. That is all he should require in the future. He's
very healthy but needs some good exercise to maintain his manly
figure. He's somewhat afraid of loud noises but is getting much
better. He gets along with other large dogs, preferrably females. He
needs a dog companion but is definitely NOT fond of small dogs, cats
or small children. Rawhide is a big boy but has a big heart to match
and gives his love freely. His picture is on the AGA website. You
may contact his foster mom, Bobbie Wier, at racersa...@sbcglobal.net
for additional information.
ADOPTIONS
Little miss Clarice moved on to her new home this weekend with Linda
and Doug Lee. They are a very nice couple who live on some acreage in
Temple with 4 other dogs and 2 cats.
Little miss Bonnie moved on to her new home last Friday with Machille
and Larry Wilte in the Lake Buchanan area. She lives with Leila (a 13
year old grey) and another dog on a huge plot of land by the lake.
MEDICAL UPDATES:
1. Smoke's jogging now but wants to run and jump. He's got so much
energy to burn. The Bardens are afraid he's going to be a maniac when
he's finally a free dog. He's got another appointment this Thursday.
His new mom, Shari Gray, is hoping that he'll get the all clear then.
2. Kelly - With her heart medicine (vasodilator to improve heart
efficiency and decrease leakage across the mitral valve) and thyroid
medicine (both pretty affordable/common human meds), she is a frisky
puppy again. She seems to be feeling like a million dollars these days
- a quick turn around from the droopy, sad girl she had become. She
has a vet appt in May to check her thyroid level (w/Dr. Willis) and
another echocardiogram with her cardiologist (Dr. Charla Jones) at the
end of June.
IMPORTANT FUND RAISER IN MAY
The next newsletter will give you all the details you need to
participate in our next fundraiser with Heisman's Feature Group. AGA
is the featured charity during the month of May. We have picked out a
greyhound tshirt that will be for sale with a portion of the sale
proceeds going to AGA. Stay tuned!
FLEA AND TICK PREVENTATIVE
Just a heads up for anyone thinking about using ProMeris for flea and
tick prevention. There have been severe reactions reported to this
"new" preventative. It's always best to wait to see if there are any
reports of negative reactions when new products go on the market.
Talk to your vet seriously before trying this product.
Warmer weather brings fleas out of hiding, and in many parts of the
country fleas are a threat year-round. These tiny wingless insects
jump onto your pets, feast on their blood, and lay eggs which can be
carried into your home or yard. One flea can lay up to 50 eggs a
day. Under ideal conditions, 25 fertile females can multiply into
nearly half a million offspring in a month. Fleas are small and tough
to spot. Pull back your grey's hair with a comb and examine the skin
for tiny black dots. These dots are flea feces. It's also a good
idea to check your carpets or your grey's bedding.
