Yesterday I successfully upgraded to 1.5.
Today I opened the terminal and typed "su" and got this:

su: uid 10043 not allowed to su

!!!

Help, please?

Thanks,

Tal.

Same here + I noticed that I didn't get Custom Locale (developer app)
and Spare Parts (developer app).
Upgraded using Recovery Image.

Thanks in advance,
Tomek

According to the Android Developers, in 1.5, root access is no longer
available from the phone itself, presumably for security reasons.

Rooted phones can still access root from adb shell.

Jim is correct, in the shipping configuration su is limited to the
SHELL group (if I remember correctly), in which adbd lives but not
other uids. This was indeed done for security reasons.

Ok, so how do I copy files as SU?
I need to replace some font files to regain Hebrew support.
I have the files on my SD card already.

This "feature" should have been better documented...

you can run "adb root", and adn itself will run as root, alowing to
push/pull anywhere on the filesystems.

Wow, I'm glad I kept a nandroid backup!
This affects every program that requires root access on the phone, the
most useful being tethering.
I think I'll wait for a JF or similarly hacked version before trying
1.5 again.

Hi JBQ,

I was looking to play with JNI, I know it's not supported but I just
want to try it for research purposes (University Project).

gavin@gavin-desktop:~/Work/workspace/MiffedJNI$ adb root
gavin@gavin-desktop:~/Work/workspace/MiffedJNI$ adb push native/
libNativeAdd.so /system/lib
failed to copy 'native/libNativeAdd.so' to '/system/lib/
libNativeAdd.so': Read-only file system

Do you know of a way in which I can copy this library across? I'd
rather not downgrade the firmware or use an unsupported version if
possible.

Kind regards,

Gav

I think that "adb remount" might be the command you're looking for,
though I'm not an expert (in a nutshell, /system is mounted read-only
by default, so even root can't write to it).
