Subject: New User
Hello everyone. My name is David Chaffee. I am a programmer who lives
in South Texas. I have been in the business of servicing physicians
offices with software and hardware since 1996. I used to be a Medical
Manager dealer. I currently sell and service AltaPoint as well as
maintaining several Medical Manager users.

I do not log into these types of groups very often, but would be more
than happy to try to help with any questions that you might have
regarding Altapoint.

Have a good day.

Hello, David.  I have a couple of simple questions about Altapoint:
1. Does it have a good way to interface with the  electronic prescribing
programs  now available?
2. I have found that periodically and regularly,  a warning box pops up
saying something about "maximum number of files open" and I can do nothing
except close the program and restart it.  What causes this and is there a
way to avoid having to do this?     Many thanks, Ron

Hello Ron,

The last I heard, They were working on a eprescribe module for Version
9. There is no interface that I know of that will allow you to
interface with a third party prescription program. However, AltaPoint
is very easy to write custom reports in. If you can get the layout
required by the third party software (if they have an import
function), it is quite possible you could write a custom report that
will save the data to a file and then import that file into the third
party program.

With regard to the Max Files, I am assuming that you are on the Client
Server version of AltaPoint. If so, you can find information about the
settings that are recommended for file locks, etc. in the front
portion of your manual. My manual is the EMR manual for Version 6 and
the settings are on page 9. You should have a program on your server
called "Advantage Configuration Utility". It is a very simple program
and the middle tab is where you will setup your total users, file
locks, etc. You will need to make sure everyone is out of AltaPoint
and that you STOP the service. Make the required changes and then
start the service again.

If this does not take care of the problem, I would need to know the
version of AltaPoint that you are using as well as what operating
system you are using. I would also need to know what operating system
you are running on your server. Is everything set up as a peer to peer
network? Do you have a Windows Server? Server 2000, Server 2003??? I
would also need to know EXACTLY what the error message says.

AltaPoint is a Windows based software so the old FILES= setting for
DOS should not come into play.

I apologize for the delay. As I stated in my original post, I don't
log into this site very often. I had three different responses since
my last login. I guess I am going to have to schedule myself to log in
more often.

Hope this helped.
David
