Goldstein Building Implosion - NO NOTIFICATION

I just wanted to make everyone aware that on Friday, June 8th, the
contractors that were working on the Goldstein Furniture building
imploded the building without notifying the neighbors. My son is a
direct abutter and was home at the time. He had the windows open
because he was not expecting this explosion. The sound was deafening
and the clouds of dust and debris were enormous. The dust all came in
his windows and we just don't know what toxins are in that debris.
They had no system in place to control the dust at all (no hoses or
tarps). I went down there Friday night and was helping him move his
patio furniture because it was covered in debris (had he known the
building was being imploded he would have moved the furniture into the
house!). I ended up cutting my palms in several places because there
were small splinters of glass everywhere. I can't believe how
irresponsible this company was. They completely disregarded the
neighbors safety and well being!!! What if the residents had been in
the yard? They would have been seriously injured. I can't imagine
that it is legal to implode a building without notifying the people
that live less than fifty feet from where the explosion is taking
place. Does anyone know what the laws and regulations are regarding
this type of construction? Thank you for your help.

Is this the kind of horsesh*t treatment we can expect from all parties with
the responsibility to prevent unchecked development and haphazard and unsafe
site
construction? It appears it is. A special note of disparagement to George
Bachrach and all former politicians turned developer who trade their
goodwill in the community for personal profit.

IF, you can show that the material and dust generated by the collapse was
not adequately allowed for, wetted down or in some way contained, or that
they had made no provision for debris that spread from the property, or were
unable to control the debris, then, possibly, an air quality complaint could
be made. Also, collect the dust and send it to tahe state air quality
management agency and have it tested for heavy metals and other toxins.
From what I saw of the demolition, there was no "implosion", there was a
controled structural collapse brought about by removing the pillars
supporting the roof trusses.
