Sortingthroughgeneric vs. brand name drugs:
When a pharmaceutical company develops a new drug, it gives the drug twonames. The first, its generic name represents the chemical structure or chemicalformof the drug. The generic name of a drug never changes. In this case thegenericname of these drugs we are discussing beIow is PHENTERMINE. The secondnamegiven to a drug is its brand name. This is the name given to the medicine bythepharmaceutical company and has nothing to do with its chemical form. Thebrandnames of the drugs we are discussing are ADIPEX-P and IONAMIN. They arebothfairly similar in that they are composed of PHENTERMINE, and subsequentlygivendifferent names by the companies that manufacturer them. No otherpharmaceuticalcompany can ever use the brand name of the drug at any time.
PhentermineHydrochloride (generic name) - Adipex-P and Ionamin (brand names):
PHENTERMINE, the generic name for ADIPEX-P and IONAMIN comes in immediatereleaseor time-release formulas. Immediate release pills enter your bloodstream as soonas you take them, and time-release capsules release theirmedication into yourbody over an extended period of time, generally 8 or 12hours. As you can see, there are many popular brand names of PHENTERMINE.Nonetheless, all of the abovenamed compounds are considered clinicallyequivalent in producing weight loss.
Ionamin:
IONAMIN is PHENTERMINE set in resin. The resin allows the compound to bereleasedslowly into the blood stream. Some patients prefer it because theybelieve it tobe associated with fewer side effects, others do not. It is theonly PHENTERMINEresin on the market. It comes in 30 mg and 15 mg capsules. The15 mg capsule isgray and yellow, the 30 mg capsule is all yellow. Each capsuleis labeled "IONAMIN".
Adipexvs.Xenical:
ADIPEX-P is an appetite suppressant. XENICAL inhibits fat absorption intothebody. So both may be used in conjunction with each other for those whoareseriously obese.
