In 1935 the Alaskan Malamute breed was recognised for the first time
by AKC American Kennel Club with the following Malamutes being the
first to be registered;

Gripp of Yukon (*24.08.1929),
Hooligan of Nome,
Taku of Kotzebue,
Finn of Yukon,
Kearsarge of Yukon,
Patsy of Kotzebue,
Sheila of Kotzebue,
Kobuk of Kotzebue,
Kotlag of Kotzebue,
Navarre of Kotzebue,
Wanda of Kotzebue.

These were all Mals from the Kotzebue strain, a smaller version of the
Alaskan Malamute as we know it today. The M'Loot strain was only added
to the Malamute breed registry after the re-opening of the registry
due to the fact that World War II and the Antarktic-Expedition from
Byrds reduced the numbers dramatically. The registry was re-opened to
allow other Malamute strains to be added as not enough breeding stock
existed at the time and that is how we today know about the Kotzebue,
M'Loot and Hinman-Irwin strains.

Today the M'Loot strain is the most dominant in what we see today, not
referring to Storm Kloud which is perceived to be a "type" of Malamute
as communicated to me by the line woner, Nancy Russel. Storm Kloud is
based on 75% M'Loot and 25% Kotzebue.
