Hi Rose, I have been transferred from our Bookmobile to one of our branch libraries. I can not tell you how valuable this list and all the people who give information have been. When I started working on the Bookmobile almost five years ago I had very little training. So much of what I know I learned from everyone either by reading these posts or going to the Conference. This is a sad goodbye and a thank-you to everyone. I will miss the whole Bookmobile world. So please take me off this list. And thank-you all again for all you do. Great, T - thanks!! I especially like that the zombie is zipping up
his pants as he comes out of the men's room....hmmm?

Thanks for all the comments! This was a fun project. We shot this
video during our usual bookmobile stop, with residents of the town of
Index, Washington. The whole thing, from sharing the script with the
actors, to makeup, to wrap-up, was done in under three hours! (and
then of course there was the EDITING). If you can imagine: people
were checking materials out on the bookmobile while all of this was
going on..
PS All the blood and all the gore can be attributed to TWO COMMON
GROCERY STORE ITEMS. Any guesses?

One wonders, could this potentially lead to a situation where zombies are attacked and eaten by the living?

Hi all, Our library is discussing getting rfid installed and I need to know how it's working or not working for those who have on board their bookmobiles. I remember it being mentioned a while back. So If you could get back to me I'd appreciate it. Any and all comments on it even if you have some comments on how it's working or not working in the main buildings.
Thanks

On our Bookmobile we use a Tagsys RFID antenna with ITG tag reading
software; our ILS is Polaris, and we run the Polaris client on a
Terminal Server with remote desktop access. It's working really, really
well for us. I find I'm significantly more efficient checking out with
RFID than with a barcode scanner.

Our system has been using RFID since 2004ish. We have been told by our IT department that we do not have enough room on our bookmobile for the zone-of-emptiness needed around the RFID antennae and for the under-desk unit that runs it. We have an integrated collection with the rest of the system. Therefore, we are still checking out materials by scanning barcodes while the rest of the system uses RFID antennae. This has caused a few issues for us that might be handy to keep on your radar in case your bookmobile is excluded from the RFID conversion or to use to justify being included:
1. Instead of quickly scanning the barcode on the front cover of the book, we now have to open each book and scan the combo RFID tag/barcode inside the back cover. This slows us down considerably at high volume stops.
2. On DVDs and CDs, the barcode is still on the front of the case while the RFID tag is on the CD itself, however, they decided to switch from white stickers printed with a black barcode to clear stickers printed with a black barcode in order to minimize the amount of the cover obscured by the sticker. Works great on light colored cases, but on black ones it will not scan and we have to manually type it in.
If/when we get a new walk-on bookmobile, one of my major priorities will be integrating RFID technology.
Good luck!
