To play in our Rugby Gala Days you will be required to be 35 years or older, male or female. To play touch with us on a Thursday night there is no age limits but you will need to register, $50.00 to cover affiliation fees and insurances.

Avoca Beach V's Warringah. On the 18th May the team travelled south to Warringah, Rat Park, to take on the heavy weights of the Sydney competition. 9 members of the team braved what was supposed to be a cold, wet and miserable day and teamed up with a similar sized group of players from Nelson Bay.

From the start it was clear, 'the Rats' were at home and were going to put their best team on the paddock, consisting of International Representative players, Manly Warringah ex players, current grade players and many more that have played the game in their prime and still don the boots simply because they can.

The game was played hard and tough but it true Golden Oldies fashion. After 60 minutes of football the Rats had beaten the Avoca and Nelson Bay combined team although noone really kept score. No major injuries on the day on either side which is amazing considering the intensity of the game. First Aid on the day was Woodsy who travelled down to offer his services for our team. Woodsy said "I was kept busier than i would be at a 3rd Grade game."

All in all a great day weather wise and game wise. Player of the match for the Avoca Team was Steve Clay who put in a strong performance in both attack and defence, his big hit on Warringah's 'Emu' was a highlight of the game. It was hard to pick out player of the match since all players in the combined Avoca Beach / Nelson Bay teams play to the best of their ability against at time verocious opposition. A comment by veteran half for Avoca Beach, Paul Arnold, "we can use this game as a yardstick, this was the toughest Golden Oldies game I've played." Similar comments were heard from the Rats camp as both teams socialised with a few beers and sausage sizzle, compliments of the Rats, after the game. Brian 'Goffo' Goffet extended Warringah an invitation to the Avoca Beach Gala day which was formally accepted by the Rats during the presentation speeches. The whitepointers welcome the opportunity to field a full strength Avoca team in August to take battle at Heazlett as the Rats have done here in Warringah in May.
