Hello

I am new to this group. I am working on 1972 Super Beetle EV
conversion using EA AC Conversion Kit. Using 12x 12V Batteries,
DMOC445 Controller and AC24 Motor.

I have completed installation of the kit. I have checked, rechecked
and verified correctness of Relay wiring - (Pin 14, 24, 20, 29, 1,

I ran my Porsche 9Electric on the Salt Flats! I didn't go very fast,
but it was fun and much was learned. Look for a faster run in 2010.
[link]
][link]

Sorry to hear about the E brake failure Randy. Just for info on my jeep
wrangler I had to install a hydralic line lock call a Mico lock. It's a
manual line lock meaning you have to depress the brake pedal and then you
apply the line lock to hold the brake pressure to either the front or the

 sorry to hear that randy
i never trusted the ebrake myself, many times i would return to find the car had moved a bit although the brake was as good as it could be.
i replaced the cables, lubed the cable tubing, rebuilt the calipers etc and it is really a
poor design and tension does not transfer well at all, i have been carrying a wooden wedge out of a 4x4 and i painted it black.

Sorry to hear that, Randy. Knowing your steep hill, in a way you're lucky
the car didn't turn and go downhill.
Just a tip to all, I don't trust my e-brake and carry two pieces of 4x4
lumber, each about 8" long, which I use as wheel chucks whenever I park on a
grade. I store them behind the driver's seat. There are better looking

 Hi all,
Yesterday morning, my 914's e-brake failed. The car rolled out of
the driveway and across the street. It was stopped by the curb and a
large pine tree. No one saw it happen. I wasn't home, but my wife
hadn't left for work yet. She drove it back into the driveway and
chocked the wheels.

Does anyone have photos or discriptions of their LiPo battery
instalation? I need some inspiration! What' the lightest way of
doing it? I'm planing a 48 cell, 180Ah, LiFePo4 pack. 12 in gas tank
area, rest over motor. Thanks for your ideas!

 Hi Dave,

I've set my Manzanita charger at about 187V. I get a little boiling,
but not much. Once the 187V is reached, the charger cuts back on
current. I've got it set to hold the voltage for 60 minutes, but on
most charges the current is essentially zero within 10 minutes of
reaching the set point. I've been thinking of dialing the timer back

I can hear, see, and smell it.
The first indication was that every morning my PakTrakr was issuing an
overcharge alert on all batteries, accompanied by the smell of battery acid
in my small, rather well-sealed garage. So I started going out to the garage
earlier to watch what was happening towards the end of the charge cycle. The

So, how do you know that your Zivan "boils" your batteries?

Terry B

______________________________ __
To: 914ev <914ev@googlegroups.com>
Sent: Friday, September 25, 2009 12:57:53 AM

hi all,

Before I bought my kit I heard from various sources that the Manzanita Micro PFC-xx chargers were good chargers. I tried to add it as an option but was told by EA that it wouldn't fit in the front luggage compartment where the Zivan NG3 is designed to sit. I wanted to maintain that location so I went with the Zivan. Now, for various reasons I wish I had the flexibility of 220V charging, plus the NG3 has other issues (it takes 14+ hours to charge if I've driven round trip to/from work, and it boils the batteries with every charge, both of which are not advised by US Battery). So I made a mock-up of a PFC-30 out of foam core board to see where I could place it. I found that it fits in the same position as the Zivan NG3 charger. Now, it just *barely* fits, so if there are any variations between vehicles then it might not fit in yours. But this is just to let you know that you might be able to consider this option if you are tired of the Zivan over-charging
