did any of you guys use a flywheel with your electric motor hookup?
there is really no pint and it adds weight.

or is it needed for the fork and thoughout bearing allignment?

The major reason to use a flywheel is so that you can maintain a clutched system.  The clutch attaches to the flywheel.  You're right that the flywheel adds unneeded weight.  Many EV people that keep the clutch take the flywheel to an automotive machinist and have much of the mass removed and the flywheel balanced.  The AC motor can technically go up to 12K RPM, so balance is more critical.
