As a matter of full disclosure I'm a 914 wannabe; I'm driving a
converted 68 Bug
http://www.evalbum.com/2796 but I avidly follow this
forum.
As a suggestion to this post I've found two sites most helpful, make
that 3 starting with this one. But the other two are
http://www.instructables.com
and
http://www.thesamba.com If this site could incorporate features
from these two sites I think it would lend significantly to value of
what you've started.
The first site is one of those fun sites where you go to see what
other people have invented and/or innovated. The beauty is that they
have devised a process by which contributors develop Instructions for
other to do what they have done. Some have pics, others have video,
and some keep it simple with text write-ups.
The second,
thesamba.com, is a forum much like many-a-sites with
contributors posting solutions and talking each other through the
process of some fix or fabrication. I'm partial to this site because
it has the video content I find quite useful, though, much of it is
actually hosted on youtube. Thesamba, however, is not EV oriented and
finding what you want is difficult at best.
As with any site finding specifically what your looking for is a
challenge but if there were a few ground rules to categories and key
words you could build a library of HowTo's for converting a 914. But
with the right amount of organization the collective EV knowledge and
experience of 914ev members could be applied to newbies of all sorts
of vehicles. No need to change the site name though, I've had several
914ev members contact me and help me with my Zivan charger issues
which bolsters the 914ev image as being EV friendly even if some of us
aren't lucky enough to have a 914.
Here's the final piece, its along the lines of the Wiki stuff; if you
had a member create a HowTo say....to install an amp gauge in the
speedometer rather than cut a hole in your dashboard or hang a gauge
cluster bracket below eye level (
http://www.instructables.com/id/Amp-
up-your-VW-Bug-Speedometer/). You could have a basic 5 step process
but then for each step other members could post tips and tricks that
would be useful for others.
That's my two cents.
