Searching tracks, releases and artists at the same time

Hey 7digital staff & other developers,

I'm currently building a prototype application using the free version of the 7digital API. I have usedthe functionality to search tracks, albums OR artists but it would be incredibly valuable to do a search on all three.

Based on the documentation I see here http://api.7digital.com/1.2/static/documentation/7digitalpublicapi.html it seems that I am on my own for this. I know I could do a separate API call to the tracks/search, artists/search, and releases/search endpoints but I worry that this will get my API key banned. Is there an API call I am not noticing to accomplish this, or am I the only one who has faced this dilemma?

Hi Cory,

Your key won't get banned for making these separate calls, but they are still subject to the 4000 request limit per day, as a free user, and you would run through this much quicker.

One of the reasons the searches are separate is because the format of the responses differ - releases, artists and tracks all have different information that an app requires such as release dates or names.  Also, the way an app displays these results differs - you would not need a 'buy' button on an artist.

Regardless, thanks for your feedback and I'll pass it onto the team who handle these endpoints.
