Unfenced Property

I will kick this off with a property at 1362 H. The rear is unfenced,
and this is a frequent source of all kinds of dumping. The building
is abandoned. I have filed 3 service request on this property. The
city has cleaned the property a few times and I believe the owner has
been fined. I will post a photo later along with the property owner
details.

Too be clear...it seems that this person is NOT paying the higher tax
rate. Is this correct? I have list of properties in my SMD which I
will bring on Saturday to share. I used the city property assessment
database to look details up on the owners. Is this the proper place to
look to see if the property is paying the correct taxes?

The place you need to look up the properties to get the most accurate information available is through the OTR property tax assessment database:

 

https://www.taxpayerservicecenter.com/RP_Search.jsp?search_type=Assessment

 

The property sales database on the OTR site will not contain accurate information as far as the current tax rate being applied (and if the last sale was a long time ago, there may be no information on the property).

 

 

 

If you used the .pdf form that OTR had on their website to determine whether the higher tax rate is being applied, I was told that this document was wildly inaccurate--and has since been removed (or is supposed to be removed) from their website.

I've posted the picture of 1362 H St online and I've got the word
document with the full details on it. Tonight I am going to go
through all of the properties I have documented so far, check their
tax status and then send an email to Allen Smith over at DCRA to get
him to reclassify vacant and abandonded properties, including 1362,
which is currently classified at 002 Commercial when it clearly should
be 003 vacant. If I could give a rough guess of how many of the 82
are in the wrong category I would say that a good 60+ are wrong. DC
is about to come into a big tax windfall!
