The 32mm "spécial randonneur" tire, commissioned by our compatriots la Confrérie des 650b

The construction looks really good, like the Hutchinson Atom tires I love on my road bike. The price is absolutely terrific too!

I've added it to the tire tracking spreadsheet:

My French is a bit rusty, is it tubeless? That would be too good to be true I suppose...

A man can dream :)

Hutchinson owns the patent on the carbon-fiber bead necessary for Road Tubeless, which is the main reason it hasn't taken off despite the flagship wheels from Shimano and Campy being tubeless-friendly without sealant out of the box for the last couple years.

My Atom tires are the tubeless version and I love them, though I wish they were made without the extra butyl layer since I'm always going to use sealant.

At 32mm these are right on the borderline of what you could get away with as a tubeless conversion. With the locking bead seat on Stan's rims you could get up to about 50psi before blowouts started becoming guaranteed.

Hetres have a good width for it, but the traditional casing and the mold lines on the sidewalls are gonna be troublesome. I'm going to give it a shot soon though on my Stan's rims.

That black and silver would look great on my black and silver Kogswell!

Here’s a rough computer translation:

Faced with the abrupt withdrawal of the Michelin Megamium, the Brotherhood believed there was a significant demand for a tire with the qualities of a good touring tire, ie a balance between driving performance, comfort and endurance this in a size compatible with the recent French hiker. And all for a final price as low as possible. We find the logical specification of Megamium. We had a contract with the manufacturer that Hutchinson makes a mold financed by the Brotherhood and which remain the property of the association, in order to have maximum security in the long-term supply and a good control the final price.

During the summer of 2010, the testers "house" were able to ride the different prototypes given by Hutchinson and agree for the first series that is now available from bicycle shops.
The tire molded on a tight weave of 127 tpi offers flexibility and ride quality that we find superior to that of Megamium, provided they take the precaution to swell considerably, almost to the maximum. Do not hesitate, even at the upper limit of the range of inflation comfort is excellent, as we wanted. Add the line "geometry" of the mold mounted on wheels or Rigida Ambrosio, we get a true 32mm. So this is perfect for the hiker around the narrow tires cut 32mm.
Flexibility is also sufficient for it to be going tire levers to mount, the tube will never look better. The only point down compared to Megamium toughness is lower, forcing soft compound. But we should reach 4,000 km.

Since late 2010, our partner CPA has the first batch of tires, it is available to the European bike dealers who will order it for you. So you have to check if your big effort Brotherhood has produced what you expected. Remember that your feedback will be used for the next round!

I have some tyres on order along with the 650B keba rims I should have
in the UK very soon.
I have had some recent dealings with the 650B brotherhood and they are
absolute gentlemen.

I have some being sent fro France now, the Keba ia good rim the 700c
version are very well made and produce an excellent touring rim.
They are also sending me a 40 spoke 650B rim for heavy touring and
tandem.

Hi Jan,

I think those black and silver Hutchinsons would look amazing on my
Sweetpea. I'd be very happy to test them for you on the upcoming
Tahuya 600k :-)

The Megamiums I got from you long time ago - one suffered an
unfortunate death last weekend. I got 2900 miles out of it, so it
doesn't owe me anything. But I am in tire acquisition stress right
now. The Somas are too fat for my current fender setup, and the GB
Cypres (on order from you) give me a bit of stress on their durability
feedback.
