I've started this new Post because the other was so long that it went
on to the next page. New posts would not necessarily be seen.

So.

To All,

The Montauk Century always started in NYC, originally in Queens.
It was 100 miles and was minimally supported. The idea was to
accomplish this great traverse. To push the envelope on a bike.

If we make it a circle, it's NOT the same. We had a circle, "The
Strawberry Festival". And we can have it again.

We are NYC based. Most of our members live in NYC. We need the NYC
option, even if we start in Queens.

I believe that we went to the Light House in 1999. The word was
"England was just over the horizon".

MC was started as a "Day Trip", just like the Five Borough Bike Tour.
They both were started as a celebration of cycling and to encourage
people to"Get on their bikes" and "Go Further".

Has cycling gotten so far that we don't need these iconic messages
anymore? Do we have everyone that might get on a bike already on a
bike? Good! Then, our work is done. We don't have to encourage folks
with lessons, repair classes and protected bike lanes.

My opinion, I don't think so. The mission of this Club is to set the
examples and beat the bushes for more people on our lovely steeds.
They need the goals. They need the examples. That's the business that
our Club is in.

Riding an exercise bike is boring. Testing your mettle on an open road
pointed at the horizon is.... well you know. We all know.

We need a "Day Trip" from NYC(maybe Queens) to Montauk. If the
membership wants it, the Board that we elected needs to support it.
