Ordinarily I would not push a small time local event with any
expectation that you will want to come to what is basically a club
regatta.
However, we have a very favorable forecast for this coming saturday
which looks like the northern chesapeake may turn into a good training
ground for San Francisco 2009. The forecast is for winds of 20-25 kts
with some gusts up to 35. If this scares you and you plan to go to SF,
get used to the idea that these are the expected racing conditions on
SF bay. So if you have any inclination of going to worlds next summer,
this is a great opportunity to get used to the conditions in a
relatively convenient location with warm water.
We are scheduled to be sailing together with Solings, Stars, and
Daysailors. If this forecast materializes, I expect at least one and
maybe all 3 of the other fleets to bail out, so we may have the race
course all to ourselves.
Expense and organization levels for this regatta will be minimal (I
think it's $20 but don't quote me on that), and for SSA members it is
free, so if you can find an SSA member to sail with you don't have to
pay anything. There are a number of SSA members (including yours
truly) who are looking to sail so if you need a crew or skipper let me
know and I can hook you up.
Right now we have a scratchlist of 4-5 confirmed boats, including
Ramsay, Sterge, Amie/Ted, Bryan, and Brendan. There are a couple
others on the fence.
So think about it, if you're around and want to put in some training,
we would love to see you in Annapolis this saturday.
Your pal,
JB
