All,

At the NA's in San Fran, the class will presenting two of its most
important awards, the Dennis Surtees Service Award and the Dave Cahn
Sportsmanship Award. I urge everyone in the class to give this some
serious thought and submit nominations for any deserving individuals.

The Dennis Surtees Service Award is an annual award to honor 505
sailors who have distinguished themselves by providing outstanding
service to the American Section. For decades, Dennis Surtees optimized
505 sailing in the United States both with his performance and his
contributions to the class. Dennis represents everything that was and
still is great about the class and it’s leadership.

The Dave Cahn Sportsmanship Award is given each year to the member of
the American Section that best demonstrated the Dave Cahn brand of
sportsmanship. Dave was the perfect gentlemen on and off the water. He
raced as hard as he could, but was always within the letter and spirit
of the rules. Tragically, Dave died while racing his 505.

Nomination are needed for both of these awards. If you would like to
nominate a deserving individual, please notify the Vice President by
email (Jeff Nelson - jeffrey...@gmail.com) by August 5th.
Nominations should adequately describe why the nominee is deserving of
the award, and specific examples of the nominee's service should be
cited in the letter. The National Executive Committee will choose the
2009 recipient from the list of nominations.

Thanks
Drew
