With just over 6 weeks to go before the Worlds start on the same race track, the West Coast fleet descended on Treasure Island halfway across the Bay Bridge from San Francisco. Saturday started hot and light, very unusual for the Bay but after an hours postponement on shore we set off to race in fantastic conditions, warm, sunny and 15-20 knots. The race team from the Golden Gate Yacht Club and Dave Whale set up a windward leeward course and gate starts and the 22 boats battled it out on the bay.

Jeff Nelson and Mike Martin dominated the day, winning all three races by what seemed ever increasing margins leaving us all scratching our heads to work out how we can close the gap. The chasing pack consisted of Ben Benjamin/Kevin Taugher, Paul Cayard/Andy Beeckman, Carl Smit/Mike Holt, Dave Shelton and Bruce Edwards, all racing after Jeff and Mike's shadow. After racing we all gathered to eat, drink and BS about a great day of racing.

Sunday the breeze was up from the start with racing held again in warm sunny conditions with the breeze at or around 20 knots with puffs into the mid 20's. Racing to remember! There was a change in order today, were Jeff and Mike sandbagging or had the rest of us learnt rom Saturday? Race 4 was a close fought battle between Steve Bourdow/Nick Adamson and Dave and Bruce, with the former just taking the gun from the later. Jeff and Mike finishing 3rd. In typical West Coast fashion there are no discards so it was all still to play for going into the last race. Carl and Mike led from the start and there job was made easier when Jeff and Mike "chicken gybed" surely ruling them out of being named "King of the Bay"! Carl and Mike took the gun, Steve and Nick claimed 2nd with a 3rd for Jeff and Mike easily enough for them to claim their 100th KOTB title.

Thanks to Nick and all the team at TI, the GGYC race committee and all the rest of the support crews out in rubber boats looking after us all. If we have conditions like this for the Worlds it will be an incredible event.

1. Jeff Nelson/Mike Martin 1,1,1,3,3

4. Steve Bourdow/Nick Adamson 23, 4, 7, 1, 2

5. Ben Benjamin/Kevin Taugher 4,3,2,7,23

You should contact Larry at waterat.  He is stocking booms and poles.  (831) 768-1520 / la...@waterat.com.  We are using his boom - the large round tube shape is super strong and easier to work in than the oval shaped booms.  Mike Martin is using his complete setup including a prototype carbon double spiro fitting that Larry built.

Hey everyone,

I know, I know......we are way late in getting things together but does anyone know of some CST boom/poles available in NA?  How about the double Spiro fittings from South Africa?  Other suggestions?

Thanks,

Rich
