I wanted to send you all a quick update on what's going on with 4th Street. We had a committee meeting last night and this is basically what we discussed
We're working on a flyer to promote 4th Street. It's attached to this message. *Please note that this is a draft flyer and is NOT complete. Please don't distribute the flyer*. As you will see, it's tri-lingual (English, Spanish, Korean). We want to use these flyers to spread information about 4th Street throughout the neighborhood and to build support among residents and the business community. We need help revising the Spanish translation on the 2nd page (the back) and we also need help confirming all the Korean translation. If you can help or if you know someone who can, please let me know.
As you can see, we've got a number of groups who have given us the okay to put their logo and/or name on the flyer. We're working towards approval from Mid-City West Community Council and the Greater Wilshire NC (we've requested to do presentations to both groups), as well as some other community groups. If you can help with this, please let me know.
*On April 28, 2012,* there will be a big community event at the Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools (former site of the Ambassador Hotel). LACBC has been invited to have a table at this event. In addition to promoting the LACBC and talking about the 7th Street bike lanes (that end right at the east entrance of campus), this is a perfect opportunity to talk about 4th Street with the local community, especially those who aren't bicyclists but whom we want to know about the project and to support it. If you can help at this event, even for a short period of time, please let me know.
Bicycle detection stencils were recently added at all the signalized intersections on 4th Street. A photo was posted to Streetsblog recently and we plan to post a short mention of the stencils on the LACBC site (for anyone who didn't see it on Streetsblog and so we have it recorded on the LACBC site).
The signs that go with the stencils are supposed to be installed in 4-6 weeks. We've asked LADOT to let us know when this happens so we can do a little promotional effort. Every step towards a better 4th Street is worth celebrating! Stay tuned.
We recently updated the campaign name from 4th Street Bicycle Blvd. to 4th Street Neighborhood Greenway. Rick Risemberg wrote a piece for us explaining the reason for the name change. Check it out at http://www.la-bike.org/projects/4th-street-neighborhood-greenway Thank you Rick!
Roundabouts!
LADOT is still planning to install mini-roundabouts at 4th & Norton and 4th & New Hampshire. We've heard that installation WAS slated for sometime in June 2012, but has been moved back to a later date which is not yet confirmed. We're keeping in touch with LADOT about this and we want to be involved in design review. We're also seeking partners in the community to make sure the roundabouts are landscaped and maintained. We also plan to help with community education about the roundabouts by designing, printing, and distributing door hangers that will explain the benefits of roundabouts and provide contact numbers/e-mail for those with additional questions or concerns. We want the roundabouts to be successful so the city will install even MORE of them on 4th and other places. The door hangers will also be tri-lingual so if you or someone you know can help with the design and printing....yep, please let me know. We're also going to need LOTS of help with distributing the door hangers. Stay tuned for that!
Video
We've talked in the past about creating a short video to promote 4th Street, similar to the 7th Street video that promoted bike lanes there. We'd still like to do this, but we need help to make it happen. Any of you with video production and editing skills, please give me a call. We've got a little bit of content created thanks to volunteer Matt Theisen, but we have a lot more that needs to be done. Film and video students looking for a subject, we're your project!!
Thanks for your time and interest!

The Spanish is not quite working. I'll have a crack at it this weekend if I can. (I was born in Argentina.) The tagline under the photos also needs a bit of help.
Thanks Rick. Just so you and everyone else knows, the main body Spanish translation (on page 2) was done for me using a slightly different English text, which was updated. I'm not surprised they don't match. The other Spanish translations - the short sentences on the front and the text at the top and bottom of page two were done using Google Translation. The same goes for the Korean text - the body text was translated for me and the other parts were done using Google.
I'd like to complete this flyer by the event on April 28 so anyone who can help re-translate and/or confirm existing translation is correct/incorrect would be a great help.
Thanks!!
Colin

Here's my take on it. What do our other Spanish speakers think of it?
