Posting Guidelines

This group is open to public - anyone can join, but the postings are moderated.

The reason for moderating the posts is:

  • prevent any abuse (spam, offensive langiage, etc...)
  • prevent duplicates or near duplicates
  • reduce off topic threads

These are a few guidelines for posting messages to the group:

1. When replying to an existing post, ask yourself if you want to reply directly to that person or if you wish to reply to the whole group

To reply to the whole group, just hit "Reply" in your email program.  To reply to just that individual, you need to get their address from that email header and then send a new email just to them.  If you view the messages online, there is actually two different links.  One says "Reply" and the other says "Reply to Author" - so that is easier if you're viewing online.

2. When replying to an existing post, see if anyone else has already given the same answer that you are about to give.  Also if you do send a response and other people send the same response, the moderator will probably just send one of the responses through.  For example, if someone asks "Who wrote the song 'Better is One Day'?" and then 10 people respond with "Matt Redman" - then the moderator will just pass one of those responses and not all 10.

3. When posting a new topic, these are acceptable:

  • Announcing yourself as a new user and providing your location, ministry, website, etc...
  • Asking a question about worship music or something related to worship and or music
  • Annoucing new songs that you've posted to the web
  • Asking for prayer
  • ??? - I don't want to be too strict on these, other posts may get through too

4. THE SUBJECT LINE IS IMPORTANT

When people browse the messages, it is important that the subject lines briefly describe the messages.  be thoughtful when starting a new topic AND if you reply to a message and you are changing the subject, then change the subject line too - or start and entirely new message.

5. What NOT to do:

  • Do not reply with a personal message to the whole group - for example "Hey you live near me, let's meet at church next week..."  That sort of communication is GREAT, but it's just between two people and the whole group doesn't need to see that message.  If you have difficulty figuring out how to reply to just the individual, request assistance.
  • Do not copy and paste text from another website as a "post" all by itself.  If you see something relevant on a website, you can quote parts of it or link to it, but it should be just part of your post that goes along with your words.  In other words - if you see something, you would tell us WHY it's good, then point to it.
  • Do not send repeated announcements for your ministry or website.  If your reply to another post warrants linking to your website that's fine, but don't start a new thread with an announcement that we've already seen.
  • Do not send offers to sell products unless you are responding to a post where someone requested that information
  • Do not use coarse language - I realize that the definition of this varies from place to place.  I am not going to post a list of "forbidden" words, just use good taste and there should be no problem

5. Theology

Some questions and discussions about theology as it pertains to worship is fine.  Do not be dogmatic - the goal should be discussion not fighting.
