Subject: Foot-pedal interface
I've been noticing lately that I could really use an easier way to
trigger certain things on my computer.  I'm thinking perhaps some sort
of foot pedal is the way to go.  "Right-arrowing into" items in
Quicksilver comes to mind.  I'd love to be able to use a foot switch to
navigate folders, etc. in QS.  I'm sure more ues would become quickly
apparent.

Has anyone tried this?  Are there assignable USB foot pedals readily
available?

I found a number of foot pedals floating about just by running a google
search for: footpedal computer hardware ....and looking for (at Google's
recommendation) this: "foot pedal" computer hardware ...found even more.

Most seem to be designed for dictation purposes (a traditional use for
foot pedals) but perhaps there are some for use flight simulators
(rudder pedals) or for race car games (accelerator pedals) that would be
of use here....

I had one of these for a while back when I worked on a
Mac and really liked it.

Ha ha. Yes, well, when you're looking at the prospect
of never using your hands again, the $300 isn't so
bad. Luckily, the years of rest, combined with
retraining on their use and limits has me back to a
reasonable percentage of normal.

I saw a post on Engadget 2 days ago, and just ran across your post.
Microsoft has been working on something equivalent to a hack of the
dance revolution maps.  They allow the foot pad to be used as an input
device in other systems.

The original post was here
http://www.engadget.com/2006/03/01/microsoft-goes-ddr-with-step-user-...

I don't think they are taking it seriously, however if you have any
hacking capability or have done any modding, you might be able to
recreate the effect yourself.

Or just wait for the apple I-Foot mouse to come out in 10 years and
turn the computing world upside down . . .  :)
