This kind of bugs are hard to fix, unless I can reproduce the issue. Can
you reproduce the issue at will, or it just happens sometimes? Is there
at least some action that seems to make it more likely to happen?
Thanks!

Edu.

Sorry i couldnt reproduce. It happens randomly. It happens only with the 20130414 version of 400plus. the older version works perfect! Sorry for my bad english.

Sorry to be bothering you with so many questions, but do you think whether it tends to lock more while taking photographs, or using the menus, or running a script, please? Thanks!

PD: I will not complain about your English, if you do not complain about mine!

Edu.

It happens most, when i push the Shutter, then i look at the Image Preview, then i want to change the Aperture. Then nothing works, the Camera locks up. Only Battery in and out brings the Camera back to work.

Someone else mentioned to me that his camera locked when changing the aperture right after reviewing a photograph, too; so there seems to be a pattern here. But I've trying to reproduce this bug for days, to no avail.

Are you using AutoISO? Is camera in Av or M mode? How is the auto preview configured in your camera? Is there any other setting that you think could be related? ...? I'm sorry to make so many questions, but I must confess that I'm completely lost about this bug.

Thanks,
Edu.

Ok. I`m not using Auto ISO. Its in AV Modus. The Preview is configured in Previewtime 2 Seconds. I hope that helps. The Version 20120415-17 works perfect!

Strange, unexplainable problems that is hard to replicate when you want, but always surface when you don't want it.
I had some similar problems. Sometimes I had to take battery out, sometimes it just messed with my settings.
I found that replacing my noname 4GB memory with a good well known brand 2GB solved my lock ups and generally made it work faster when changing settings.
The bad CF card was very slow to copy to PC (linux and windows), so I should have realized this sooner. Reformatting did not help.

I'm terribly sorry about this situation...

For me, camera stability is the top priority in a project like this: all the cool features are completely meaningless, if you cannot rely on your camera when you need it. We reached a rock solid version with the previous major release, and now it is gone; I'm completely wretched...

My main concern now is that this is a "random" bug that just happens sometimes; I have not been able to reproduce this, and I cannot be sure when it gets fixed. We made hundreds of changes between the two last major releases (my fault here, we should have had a shorter release cycle), and it will be hard to find which particular change to blame.

I'm still on this, but unfortunately out of ideas; all I can think now is to "bisect" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_Bisection) all the changes from one major release to the other, and that is a long and painful process.

I think the code is good. What I am saying is, that a bad card can break it. It will be much easier for us to replace with a good card, than for you to to fix GOOD code to be better. You already did more than anyone can expect. Thank you. Take a rest and enjoy your good work. I do.
Best regards...

I just installed 400plus for the first time yesterday. It's a great mod but my camera randomly freezes so frequently I just removed it tonight. I was shooting in a park earlier and it seemed like playback triggers the freeze. I have the camera set to default settings, 400plus default settings, using Manual mode, no 400plus features enabled at the time. I have auto-playback enabled so that maybe why the freezing is so frequent. I'm using the bg-e3 battery grip and a SanDisk Ultra II 1gb CF. I have never installed a previous version, was hoping to find one until this bug is resolved. Anything I can do to help, let me know.

You can still access older releases at the following link:

http://code.google.com/p/400plus/downloads/list?can=1&q=Release+label%

Version 20120415-14 is reported to be very stable.

If I'm not mistaken, there were other reports of camera lock-ups and there were the grip involved into the problem. Please try using the hack w/o the grip and see if there are problems. We were discussing one particular grip (cant remember which), but one of the possible causes was that the grip may have weak connections and when the camera drains more peak power, the grip cant handle it and the CPU freezes. Please do this test and report back.

I have managed to partially reproduce the issue: after taking a shot,
sometimes the camera will display a black screen, instead of the last
photography taken, and buttons stop responding.

However, the camera does not seem to lock completely: I still can turn
it off using the main switch, or even take another photograph (and in
that case, the display will work again).

I am of the same boat.

I seem to have been getting a "lockup," but for me it's more of freezing since no buttons respond, an unresponsive screen including the power switch and sometimes the screen shows a rigid grey and black blinds on a slightly offset angle. No idea what causes it but it definitely happened after I upgraded from an older hack.

I've even had times where the camera wouldn't turn on or flash any lights to show it was reading the CF card. By disconnecting the camera from the battery the camera would act normal.

Currently on V-201301414-02

The only accessories I use on the XTi is Cactus V5 radio slaves. No Battery grip.

I'll do what I can to "troubleshoot" the bug when it comes up again. Other than that I have no idea what else I can offer for assistance. It's been a great hack and I'm sorry to see it acting so stubbornly.

It has happened to me several times today: first the display locks and
the button stop responding just after taking a photograph (no need to
change aperture or any other value); I could still take another
photograph, but it would not get recorded to the card, and the camera
would freeze completely.

Still looking for a solution...

Does this happen without extra equipment attached to camera?
Most reports seem to be with some kind of equipment attached.

It happened to me the other night without external equipment. However I was using the built-in flash.
This is how it went: Took a shot, notice the camera wasn't responding to my half-pressed shutter button. The camera was fully unresponsive yet the SD-card activity light was practically flashing a steady red. Had to pop the battery out just to turn it off.

I just opened issue #338 about this problem, please follow the
discussion there; thanks.
